Comparison of the transfusion effects of fresh and cryopreserved apheresis platelets

چکیده
In this study, the clinical transfusion effects of fresh and cryopreserved apheresis leukocyte-reduced Platelets (PLTs) were examined. In total, 102 patients admitted to our hospital between August 2012 and August 2013 were enrolled, including 50 non-hematonosis patients and 52 hematonosis patients. Among them, 45 received fresh apheresis PLTs and 57 received cryopreserved PLTs. Patient blood PLT counts before and after transfusion were measured and the Percentage of Platelet Recovery (PPR) was compared among groups. The PPR for the cryopreserved PLT group was 25.03 ± 52.06%, which was significantly lower than that of the fresh PLT group (47.06 ± 42.94%, t=2.29, P<0.05). The PPR of the non-hematonosis group (51.01 ± 65.10%) was significantly lower than that of the hematonosis group (21.40 ± 24.23%; t’=2.92, P<0.05). Fresh apheresis leukocyte-reduced PLTs were safer and more effective than cryopreserved apheresis leukocyte-reduced PLTs. Transfusion was more effective in nonhematonosis patients than in hematonosis patients.

Comparison of platelet transfusion as fresh whole blood versus apheresis platelets for massively transfused combat trauma patients (CME).
BACKGROUND At major combat hospitals, the military is able to provide blood products to include apheresis platelets (aPLT), but also has extensive experience using fresh whole blood (FWB). In massively transfused trauma patients, we compared outcomes of patients receiving FWB to those receiving aPLT. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS This study was a retrospective review of casualties at the military ...
متن کاملOncogenic and angiogenic growth factors accumulate during routine storage of apheresis platelet concentrates.
PURPOSE Platelet concentrates are important for support of patients with malignancies requiring myelotoxic chemotherapy. During storage, 10% to 15% of platelets may become activated resulting in the release of alpha-granules, which contain growth factors. We hypothesize that, during storage, growth factors accumulate in the plasma, specifically platelet-derived growth factor, vascular endotheli...
متن کاملSuccessful transfusion of platelets cryopreserved for more than 3 years.
To determine the duration of storage for cryopreserved platelets, 14 transfusions of random-donor, pooled platelets, stored in the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen for a mean period of 1157 days (range 1060-1240), were analyzed. Twelve of these transfusions were compared in a paired fashion with fresh, random-donor, pooled platelets given within a few days to the same thrombocytopenic recipients....
متن کاملGeneration of Platelet Microparticles after Cryopreservation of Apheresis Platelet Concentrates Contributes to Hemostatic Activity
OBJECTIVE In the last decade, substantial evidence has accumulated about the use of cryopreserved platelet concentrates, especially in trauma. However, little reference has been made in these studies to the morphological and functional changes of platelets. Recently platelets have been shown to be activated by cryopreservation processes and to undergo procoagulant membrane changes resulting in ...
متن کاملInfluence of Different Methods Preparation on Platelet Activation in Stored Platelet Concentrates
Platelet transfusion therapy has played an important role in the management of patients [4]. Today, a variety of methods for the preparation of platelets for transfusion are available ,which may be due to different processing systems such as apheresis ,buffy coat and platelet rich plasma platelet concentres methods [5,6]. Processing and storage may affect both platelet quality and function and ...
